George Stevensons Centenary Medallion.
Issued on 9th June 1881 to mark the centenary of the birth of George Stevenson in 1791 in Wylam, Newcastle on Tyne. On one side is the bust of Stevenson himself and on the other the famous Locomotion No. 1, the first steam locomotive to carry passengers on a public rail line, the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1825. George also built the first public inter-city railway line in the world to use locomotives, the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, which opened in 1830.
The medallion is mase of a base metal and finished with a silver wash. In very good condition a light knock to the edge on one side only. 1.75 inches in diameter.
