German M1871 Knife Bayonet Unit Marked.

Knife bayonet for use with the 11 mm. Mauser Gewehr 71/84 repeating rifle, this one has had its muzzle ring partly removed at the factory, this may be so it could be used on the Gewehr 88 Commission Rifle. This bayonet would be classed in good but semi-relic condition, but it is so beautifully marked, I had to have it. It carries the makers mark of C. G. Haenel of Suil, a very good high-quality maker. On the spine of the blade it is marked with a crown over a scrolled ‘D’ for Erfurt state arsenal in Thuringia, ‘L’ under crown for the Bavarian Kingdom under King Ludwig III and under this the year of 88 for 1888.
On one side of the guard, it has a unit marking ‘B.7. R. 15. 86. For 7th Battalion of the 15th (2nd Westphalian) Infantry Regiment.
An interesting bayonet and a good historical piece. It measures 14.75 inches long. No scabbard.
Ship to UK mainland only. Proof of age required on purchase over 18’s only.
