WW2 Era Brodie Helmet with Combined Opps Decal.
A late matt green WW2 issue Brodie helmet with a large original Combined Operations decal on the side. I thought the decal was stencilled but on looking closer, I can see it was hand painted, not the easiest insignia to hand paint. It is backed with a black semicircle, it is still visible but has a wear, the red painting has some wear and small losses, but in very good, still quite bright condition. The helmet has its original liner, this has suffered slightly it looks like heat and or damp damage, the outside of the helmet has some pitting which has affected the decal slightly. The is some black marks on the helmet skull, this I think is due to the helmet being stacked on top of one another, and the helmet on top of this one sustained the same liner damage, which residue has stuck to this helmet, if that makes sense. Lastly the chinstrap is missing, these are still easy to find. All in all, a rare survivor.
I have collected decal helmets for years and these are hard to find. But I don’t think they were ever used, when genuine examples do come onto the market, they are always in pretty good shape. I think they were intended for use in the D-Day landings but for some or many reasons were not used, which backs up my theory why they were stacked. I have never attempted to clean or wax this one, to it comes untoched.
