Rare Siege of Pieping Souvenir Medallion 1948.
This medallion was issued to the American contingent involved in the Chinese Civil war. Although the US were not directly involved in the siege of Pieping (now Beijing) this was privately issued.
History. The Siege of Peiping in 1948, also known as the Pingjin Campaign, was a key part of the Chinese Civil War, resulting in the peaceful liberation of the city by the People's Liberation Army (PLA). The PLA strategically encircled Peiping (now Beijing) and other cities, isolating Nationalist forces. After negotiations, the Nationalist commander, Fu Zuoyi, agreed to a peaceful handover, preventing further bloodshed in the ancient capital.
While Peiping was liberated peacefully, other battles in the campaign resulted in significant casualties for the Nationalist forces, with many annihilated or relocated.
This medallion is in good condition, nice and clear and measures 1.5 inches in diameter.
