Scarce The Battle of Zorndorf 1758.
A scarce bronze medallion commemorating the Battle of Zorndorf 25th August 1758 during the Seven Years' War, involving the Prussian and Russian armies. saw Prussian forces under Frederick the Great facing a Russian army led by Count William Fermor. While the battle was tactically inconclusive, with both sides claiming victory, it was a significant event in the war and a crucial moment in the evolution of military tactics.
The medallion was produced as a piece of propaganda declaring a Prussian victory. The obverse shows Frederick the Great on horseback with the title ‘The valiant King of Prussia’ and the reverse has a scene of the battle with the title ‘the Russian Defeat’. This medallion which measures 1.5 inches in diameter is over 250 years old, so there is some wear, but detail can be easily made out and readable.
