WW2 German Coastal Artillery War Badge.
A very nice example of a Wartime issue of the German Coastal Artillery war badge.
This very underrated badge was awarded to the crews of Kriegsmarine land-based marine artillery and anti-aircraft units. It was a single class award which was achieved by receiving 8 points under combat conditions. Bearing in mind the type of pressure the coastal defences were under during the endless raids by the allied air forces. 2 points were awarded for shooting down an aircraft unassisted. 1 point for shooting down and aircraft assisted by another crew. Half a point for non-gun crew members, searchlight operators, fire control, radar and radio operators for helping to shoot down an aircraft. So it was hard to earn one of these badges.
This one is in very good original condition, a late war issue so I don’t think it ever had a gilt finish to the oak leaf wreath. It has a good hinge, pin and catch but no makers mark.
