WW1 medal Pair to Staff Nurse Reynolds QAIMNSR.

Correctly named British war medal, victory medal with QAIMNSR collar badges and a quantity of original photographs all relating to Staff Nurse Gladys Naomi Reynolds of the Queen Alexandria’s Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve.
Gladys was born in Oxfordshire 1887 and her family lived on their farm, Springhill Farm in Milton Oxfordshire. In the 1911 census, Gladys is employed as a family Governess, so her early education was very good with a leaning towards music. But in the November of 1911 she is employed at the London Hospital Whitechapel. In 1916 she is transferred and promoted to Staff Nurse in charge of a ward of 40 beds both civilians and soldiers. In June that year she was posted to the military hospital Tidmouth and she must have proved a valuable staff nurse as she was then posted to Egypt on 22nd 6th July 1917, arriving at Alexandia on the 14th September and joining the 68th General hospital a few days later. She remained with the QAIMNSR until her demobilisation in July 1919. After the war she married Lieutenant Francis Clifford Armstrong of the 3rd Canadian infantry brigade and they both visited Canada several times, Francis Armstrong staying to take up his previous position at the Bank of Canada. Later Gladys joined him permanently and sailed on SS Andania for a life in Canada in1936. They had one daughter Eve and sadly Gladys died on 20th November 1914 and is buried at the Cimetière Mont-Royal, Outremont, Montreal Region, Quebec, Canada.
This is of course only a snapshot of the life of both these war veterans and included with her medal pair is a folder of paperwork and research. Both medals are in very good original condition.
