WW2 Pair to Robertson ATS 6th AA Group.
An interesting WW2 Medal pair of the Defence and 1939/45 war medal awarded to W/15453 Joan Robertson Auxiliary Territorial Service.
Joan was born in Surbiton Surrey on 19th April 1914 and worked as a shorthand typist before the war. She enlisted in to the ATS in Ipswich on 17th May 1939 and was posted to the 1st Suffolk ATS attached to the Anti-Aircraft command. She started her service in 1939 at the rank of clerk Class B and through the duration of the war was promoted to Sergeant and then 2nd Subaltern in August 1942 and posted to the 6th Anti-Aircraft Group in Ipswich. This branch of the ATS were attached to the 1st Suffolk Volunteer Artillery and defended the east coast from Gt Yarmouth to the Thames estuary through the battle of Britian and later defended against V-1 flying bombs. These volunteers were essential to the defence of Great Britain during the war and the ATS played a major roll.
Along with her medal pair which is court mounted comes various badges and insignia original paperwork including her service and pay book and passbook, photograph, cards etc.
All in good used condition.
