German M84/98 Bayonet, Scabbard & Frog. Spanish Civil War

A superb and slightly unusual M84/98 bayonet. It has the pommel with push button catch with original blued finish and issued stamp. It has wooden grips and steel guard, which has a full muzzle ring. A very fine steel, single fullered bladed which retains nearly all of its original bluing. The Ricasso is marked Simson & Co Suhl and it comes in its original rolled steel scabbard andl leather frog.
Simson & Co. was a significant German manufacturer of bayonets, producing them in the city of Suhl, Germany. They also made a large quantity for export and this type of bayonet with the full muzzle ring were exported to Spain during the civil war. Export bayonets are typically unmarked, except for serial numbers added later by the purchasing government. Finding this example that bears full German markings is most unusual and scarce.
In wonderful original condition, measuring 16 inches long, 17.5 inches long in scabbard including frog.
