WW2 German Iron Cross 1st Class by Meyhauer of Berlin.
WW2 issue Iron Cross 1st class of EKII Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse. It was awarded without regard to rank however one had to possess the 2nd Class in order to receive the 1st Class medal, though in some cases both could be awarded simultaneously. The Iron Cross was awarded for bravery in battle as well as other military contributions in a battlefield environment and was worn centred on a uniform breast pocket, on either dress uniforms or everyday outfit.
It has a silver frame with a magnetic core, the 1st class with a solid silver back. this one is a lovely example, although marked with ‘7’ on the pin for Paul Meyhauer of Berlin.
It has a nice broad pin with its original catch and substantial hinge. It is in excellent condition with no rusting to the iron core and it is toned and would benefit for a light clean. A lovely war time medal.
