WW1 Silver Tournament Medal to Capt Canadian Corps of Guides.
Solid silver Aldershot Command Group Competition Tournament 2nd place Medal awarded to Captain C. C. S. Watson of the 5th Canadian Division for Tilting Ring and Peg. C. C. S Watson was a Captain with the Canadian Corps of Guides from October 1916. The Corps of Guides were mounted troops of an infantry division used for collecting intelligence and reconnaissance.
Tilting at the Ring: A rider at a gallop attempts to carry off small rings suspended from hooks using the point of a sword or lance. Pegging: A mounted horseman gallops towards a ground target (a wooden peg) and uses a sword or lance to pierce, pick up, and carry it away.
Unfortunately the medal is undated and unmarked but it tests as .925 sterling silver, measures 1 x 1.5 inches and comes in good condition.
