WW2 & Korea Group to Sharratt Northumberland Fusiliers / W Yorks R.

An interesting group of medals including 1939/45 star, France & Germany Star, 1939/45 war medal. Korean War medal named to 1443332 Cpl J D Sharratt R.N.F. UN medal for Korea and the QEII Africa general service medal named to 1443332 Sgt J D Sharratt.
Please note. Sergeant Sharratt had his medals stolen; this set is a set of MOD official named replacements mounted for wear.
With these medals comes his original Soldiers Record and Pay book which confirms that 1443332 James Douglas Sharratt served with the Northumberland Fusiliers during the second world war, saw action during the Normandy landings where they fought as a premier machine-gun and support regiment and in various roles, including motor battalions, reconnaissance units, and infantry.
During the Korean war they were attached to the 29th Independent Infantry Brigade, which had been sent to Korea to reinforce the Allied effort there. When it arrived in Korea in December 1950, the Brigade comprised of 1st Battalion, the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, 1st Battalion, the Gloucestershire Regiment, 1st Battalion, the Royal Ulster Rifles, 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars, C Squadron, 7th Royal Tank Regiment, with specialised armour and Royal Artillery 45 Field Regiment, 11 LAA Battery and 170 Mortar Battery, plus other supporting units.
In April 1951 the battalion was involved in the Battle of the Imjin River, as the brigade stood in the path of the Chinese Spring Offensive. In this action the 1st Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regiment, which was outnumbered and eventually surrounded by Chinese forces on Hill 235.
After Korea his service commitment had come to an end, so he reenlisted, into the West Yorkshire regiment, serving in Kenya and earning the Queens Africa general Service medal, finally leaving the army around 1954. More research is needed on this man who saw much varied service during WW2 and the post war years. The medals are in perfect condition and come in a storage box with his service book.
