WW1 Gold for Iron Medal.
The Gold for Iron medal was a patriotic commemorative medallion issued by Germany in 1916. It was given to civilians on the home front who donated their gold jewellery and coins to fund the war effort. The writing on the obverse roughly translates to “gave gold for defence, I took iron for honour." This one is in very good condition and comes in a German 800g silver mount. It measures just under 1.75 inches in diameter.
