Antique Talwar Sword.

The Talwar, Talwaar or Tulwar Sword, the typical fighting sabre of the Indian subcontinent. It is of all metal construction a form of steel with a curved blade and heavy hilt supporting two long lagnets and a dish pommel.
This is a very old sword, although I have had a number of these over the years, but I’m still unable to date them. All I can say with all honesty it is 19th century or earlier. However most professionally dated 19th century swords I have found have a more complex form of production with more decoration. This one almost looks provincially man. It also has a small feature I can not find on any others. It has a triangle shaped slot on one side of the cross guard and a small notch in the dish pommel. Some not all have a knuckle bow, but none I can find are attached in this manner. More research is needed.
It is in good order and in comes in a polished condition, there is a very old crack on the top of the guard to one side, this looks like it has had a heavy strike, probably with another sword.
A very interesting example measuring 34.5 inches.
