Scarce WW1 Medal Pair to Findley Scottish Horse Yeomanry.
WW1 British war and victory medal correctly named to 5301 Private George Theodore Findley Scottish Horse.
George Theodore Findley was born to a farming family on 29th December 1890 in Banchory-Devenick Kincardineshire on the east coast of Scotland. He was educated at Glasgow Stonehouse where he studied Agriculture and Veterinary Hygiene. How he enlisted into the Scottish Horse is unknown, but due to his location, he was probably enlisted into A squadron. Due to his age, he missed Gallipoli and probably didn’t see overseas service until later in the war. In October 1916, the mounted regiments were reorganized. The 1/1st and 1/2nd Scottish Horse merged to become the 13th (Scottish Horse) Battalion of The Black Watch, while others were converted into the Machine Gun Corps or joined Lovat's Scouts, in George’s case he was posted to the Machine Gun Corps. He served in Egypt and Palestine and was discharged in 1919.
This man needs a lot more research and he needs to go back to Scotland where his records can be better obtained.
I know in his life after the war, George went on to travel the world as an agriculture adviser, visiting the south Americas and many other places. A very interesting man with a fascinating history to find.
His medal pair are in very good order and come with various pages of research, as much as I could find online, this includes Medal index card and roll, School Alumni service lists etc.
