WW1 German Krugel Grenade.

A very nice example of the German Krugel grenade, now inert and totally safe with its original fuse.
The Krugel hand grenade (Kugelhandgranate) model 1913 fragmentation grenade was filled with a mixture of black powder, barium nitrate, and potassium perchlorate, and did not require a detonator.
The fuse was a friction igniter which consisted of a bronze tube with a central chamber filled with black powder and supplied with a 5 or 7 second delay, the powder train was topped with a priming wire made of brass with a loop at one end and serrated on the other. The serrated portion was coated with a mixture of ground glass, manganese dioxide, and potassium chlorate. This type was used until around 1915 when a new, easier and cheaper model to produce was manufactured.
This one is in superb original condition with original two part igniter present.
