George V 1856 Pattern Naval Midshipman’s Dirk.

A WW1 era 1856 pattern naval dirk. It has a lion head pommel; composite grip bound with silver wire. Acorn finial cross guard and etch blade, highly decorated including King George V Royal Cypher. It carries the makers mark for Grieves of London, Portsmouth and Devonport.
It has its original scabbard, but the earlier version has been used, the scabbard the has a release button grove, however this is the early 20th century type with no release button. The scabbard is leather with decorated brass fittings. This is a very good dirk in lovely condition, but it has been used and has a few faults. The blade has a few areas of staining. The scabbard should have a makers shield on the Locket, this is now missing and the Chape has a couple of minor dents. But overall, a super example. It measures 23.5 inches long.
