Royal Air Force Medical Branch Collar Badge.

This is the large 2nd pattern collar badge worn by officers of the branch. These are not cap badges and these were never worn as cap badges. They were issued (1st pattern) from 1918 to distinguish medal officers; these officers wore the usual RAF cap badge with a maroon cap band.
This 2nd pattern collar was used in 1919 and as far as I can determine was quickly replaced by the smaller 3rd pattern from 1920.
This one is in excellent, looks unused condition.
